About Marifjøra
Marifjøra is a small village on the southern side of the Gaupnefjord, a branch of the Lustrafjord in Norway. Historically, it served as a significant trading post, with its origins dating back to the early 17th century.
The first known merchant, Hans Klausen, began trading here in 1626, and by 1634, a guesthouse was established to accommodate travelers. Over the centuries, Marifjøra experienced various periods of economic activity and decline, with different merchants operating in the area.
Once a lively stop for traders and travelers, Marifjøra now offers a peaceful escape steeped in tradition. With its deep roots, scenic waterfront, and timeless atmosphere, this little village invites you to slow down, explore its stories, and feel connected to a piece of Norway’s past.
