About Tørvis Hotell

Tørvis Hotel is the oldest hotel in Norway, located in Marifjøra by the Lusterfjord. In October 2024, Bjarte Lie took over the hotel. Born and raised in Marifjøra, Bjarte knows the hotel well from his childhood. After living nearly 30 years in Oslo, he returned home to manage this historic place.

For Bjarte, Tørvis Hotel is more than just a place to stay. It’s a piece of home with history and soul. His passion is to preserve the hotel’s traditional Norwegian character — whether through its food, hospitality, or atmosphere. He wants guests from around the world to experience more than just a night’s rest, but a genuine feeling of calm, authenticity, and Norwegian way of life.

The hotel is meant to be a quiet retreat — a peaceful place for those seeking to slow down. The garden already offers cozy seating and hanging chairs where guests can relax and enjoy nature. Plans are underway to add a gazebo and pergola to enhance the outdoor space, carefully designed to maintain the hotel’s relaxed and inviting atmosphere

Bjarte’s vision is simple: a place where people can read by the fire, surrounded by candlelight — classic hygge, without TVs or modern distractions. He wants to keep the hotel’s original charm alive while creating a welcoming sanctuary for guests and locals alike.

More than anything, Bjarte hopes to make Tørvis Hotel a gathering spot for the community — a place where people of all ages can meet, connect, and share. With heart and dedication, he’s working to make the hotel a living part of the region, blending tradition and hospitality in a natural and meaningful way.
